The first in what I hope will be a long series of drawings and screenshot mockups for a hypothetical video game I'm calling Rapture Codex! This game would be a creature-collecting action RPG that draws a lot of inspiration from Shin Megami Tensei, and I figured a good subject for the first drawing would be one of the first creatures you could recruit for your party, a jackalope! I decided to give it a relatively down-to-earth design, with the only particularly fantastical elements being the copper bits on its antlers and the way its antlers and the dot on its forehead make a question mark shape. I mostly based it on jackrabbits, of course, but I gave it darker, rabbit-like eyes to make it look cuter and more approachable. I thought it would be good to start with something cute and cuddly before getting into some of the more grotesque and risqué monster designs.
I used Blender to make the glassy shapes on the right before importing them into Clip Studio Paint. In case it wasn't obvious, I barely have any experience with Blender and I was pretty much learning as I went. I wanted to give the menu here a wing motif, with selections being stylized feathers. The designs on the ends of the feathers were based on patterns from the Temple of the Feathered Serpent at Xochicalco, as were the patterns on the top and bottom of the background.
